Taxes

High taxes harm economic performance and undermine the relative competitiveness of a municipality, county and state. Taxes are integral part of the decision that entrepreneurs and CEO’s make when deciding where to locate or relocate a business and the decision that retirees will make to spend their sun-set years. Taxes reduce the incentives to work, save, and invest; thus reducing the amount of investment and production needed to grow the economy and create jobs in Florida.

Regulations

Regulations are a hidden tax imposed on all Floridians and create barriers to new businesses. Regulations almost always create costs, including the costs of loss of freedom and if the benefits from the regulation do not exceed the costs, the people are worse off as a result of the regulation. Regulatory burdens cause’s substantial economic harm by reducing economic growth, slowing job growth, and reducing Floridian’s income.

Spending

Government spending harms the economy by crowding out productive private-sector activity by taking away resources and reallocating them based on political considerations rather than economic decisions. Unfortunately the decision on where your tax dollars are being spent are being decided by politicians who are influenced by special interests lobbyists, who are reaping monetary benefits by pressuring legislators for special privileges and government handouts and it is the Florida Taxpayer who is forced to pay a higher prices and higher taxes to finance this political largesse.

Lawsuit Abuse

Every day over 1,200 lawsuits are filed in Florida. The “lawsuit lottery” mentality doesn’t come without a cost. Lawsuits mean litigation and liability costs are passed on to the consumer. Consider it a lawsuit tax you pay on the products and services you purchase. This predatory legal environment cripples businesses, threatens jobs and hurts the economy.

School Choice

Parents with the financial means exercise school choice by either sending their children to private schools or by moving into neighborhoods with highly ranked public schools. Unfortunately, those families without the financial means are many times stuck with failing public schools. Currently, there are a growing number of educational alternatives ranging from traditional public schools, private or parochial schools, charter schools, school vouchers, private scholarship programs, and home schooling. It is imperative that our children have access to the best education possible and acquire the skills to compete for high paying jobs. Unfortunately the Education bureaucracy and teachers' unions bar parents from full access to all these different educational opportunities. Parents pay school taxes and should have the right to choose the best educational opportunities for their children.

Energy

Energy is critical to Florida's economic future. High energy prices have had a significant negative impact on Florida's economy, higher transportation costs fuel prices have dampened Florida’s tourism industry and businesses, such as agriculture and agricultural products are being negatively impacted because of higher natural gas prices.
Fossil fuels are a finite product and we should encourage research and development of renewable sources of energy as part of a long term solution to our energy needs. But the reality is the opportunity for any of these alternative energy sources to solve our energy problems for anytime in the next 10 to 20 years is minimal.
Floridians should support a comprehensive energy policy that ensures affordable, reliable energy supplies and promotes energy independence, economic prosperity and national security. Increased domestic production is critical to our national security, particularly in light of the increasing turmoil and uncertainty in oil-producing parts of the world and to better bridge the gap to alternative power, it is imperative that increased domestic oil & gas production be the immediate goal until new sources can provide an economically viable addition to our country’s needs.
Currently many areas of the Gulf of Mexico are off-limits to oil and natural gas exploration, yet geologists estimate there are large reservoirs of oil and natural gas yet untapped, in fact right now it is projected that over 232 trillion cubic feet of natural gas is in the Gulf of Mexico. With new technologies oil and gas can be produced in a safe and environmentally sound fashion and offshore operations can co-exist in harmony with Florida's other vital economic interests.

Private Property Rights
Private property rights are the most basic principle that our country was founded on and is the key component of our capitalist system. If property rights are not well protected, the incentives to work, save and invest will be greatly diminished.
